Background
It all started with a couple roman shades for a friend.....
Simple Pleasures Design Group is an interior design firm located in Greensboro, NC. The company was started in 2002 when Holly Kidd and Maria Money decided to break free from the corporate world. We had both worked in apparel and hosiery design for 6 years. Some of the companies we designed products for include Wrangler, Land's End, Burlington, Spanx, J. Peterman, Belk's, Walmart and Nike Kids. We knew we both loved design and worked well together from our countless group projects in college. We also wanted to start something that would give us more flexibility as we started our families.
So, back to the roman shades. Holly's friend wanted to have some new roman shades for her kitchen but the quote from a local "posh" fabric store was quite a lot of money. Holly told her that we would make them for her ourselves. We started with those 4 roman shades in a lovely sage green fruity floral with a inset ribbon trim.....and the rest is history.
With in a year, we acquired our first model home to design and furnish for a local builder. We love creating the feeling of warmth for potential home buyers in what was an empty house. We joke about our imaginary family as we purchase the furnishings for a model. With our first models, we also discovered the benefit of being close to the "Furniture capital of the world", aka: High Point. It is a great way to see all the best of the world right in our own backyard. It also enables us to order lots of furnishings (furniture, art, greenery, accessories, etc.) at wholesale prices.
Since our humble beginnings in 2002, we've expanded from just window treatments and model homes into a full service interior design firm. But these are still two of our favorite things to do though, I guess it is our first loves.....
